Comrades, Im sure this has been asked to death but its 101, what - TopicsExpress

Comrades, Im sure this has been asked to death but its 101, what are your opinions on the Great Purges? Are there any good resources on them that are not tainted by the West? As a military buff, to me, it seems one of the most destructive decisions made by a socialist (one of many*). The Red Armys failures in 1941 were due to the lack of tactics, leadership, and coordination, it seems to me. The technology gap was closing and the strategic theory of the Red Army was ahead of the west and almost on par with the Germans via Deep Battle, but the lack of the armys ability to execute (haha) doomed it. And of course, had the Red Army been more effective in 1941, the war wouldve ended much sooner with a less loss of life and, most importantly, a less battle-scarred post war Warsaw Pact.
