Comrades, Robert Coombs, the National Industrial Officer for Australian Maritime Officers Union and former MUA official, today outlined how the sale of the Port of Newcastle just doesn’t stack up. Writing in the Newcastle Herald, Coombs states that the sale must see some key roles responsibilities remain in the hands of the State Government, otherwise the Port of Newcastle will either ‘become less efficient, or worse, exposed to considerable dangers that exist in the exercise of large vessel movements”. The MUA and AMOU have written to the NSW Liberal Treasurer Mike Baird requesting a meeting to get guarantees that current services will be retained and to get an agreement around a ‘no compulsory redundancy agreement’ approach to any changes in the future. theherald.au/story/1594163/opinion-important-questions-to-be-answered/?cs=308
