Comtec solar wafer plant may be operational by early 2014 KUCHING: Work on Phase One of the Comtec solar wafer manufacturing plant in Samajaya Free Industrial Zone here is in progress. Assistant Minister of Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) Julaihi Narawi said the proposed plant was one of the biggest foreign investments in the state. He told reporters at his Hari Raya Open House at Heritage Garden here yesterday the plant was scheduled to be operational early next year, and its total investment was RM1.2 billion. “The company is moving very fast, and the first phase, which includes the building of the plant and infrastructure, is expected to be completed within five months because they want to start operating next year,” he said, adding that project would be built in two phases. Its customers include Sunflower in Melaka and Panasonic in Kulim. On his constituency, Sebuyau assemblyman Julaihi said the people, particularly those from Entanggor, had expressed their gratitude for having road accessibility. He said the completion of the Kelait-Entanggor Road had enabled the people to move around freely. “There is still room for improvements. We have submitted a proposal to the Public Works Department (JKR) for the road to be tar-sealed and improved upon.” BP 11/8/13
