Concerning AC at Spalding County Animal Shelter.... This is a - TopicsExpress

Concerning AC at Spalding County Animal Shelter.... This is a statement I was told I could publish, Yes, I got permission..lol The current ambient temperature per the Griffin Weather Station located at UGA Griffin Campus is 86.9 degrees and the temperature in the main kennel area at the Animal Shelter is 79 degrees. Brent advised the temperature at the shelter over the holiday weekend each morning when the on-call officer went in to work was 74 degrees on July 4, 72 degrees on July 5, 73 degrees on July 6 and 75 degrees this morning. The rented swamp cooler appears to be working and keeping the main kennel significantly cooler than it was before this test. I advised Construction and Maintenance to get a price on a new swamp cooler the size of the one rented and to prepare cost estimates for a permanent installation in one of the exterior walls. INSTEAD of AC due to many issues such as wiring, water hose spray, humidity, etc... We will continue to keep recording the temperature in the morning, lunch and at 5pm and if the trend from the swamp cooler test remain the same I will authorize Construction and Maintenance to permanently install the new swamp cooler. The donated A/C unit in the bay area continues to keep the temperature in that area comfortable. The donated AC unit in the dog quarantine area may be replaced with a smaller swap cooler. It takes time to work all of the logistics out. This all came about with a simple plea on my facebook wall about animals suffering in heat and me asking can anyone local help with an AC for the mommas and babies. It then turned into a rolling ball with a LOUD mind of its own. These issues have since been resolved and are in the process of being resolved. For those not following this event, I put out a plea and several of our faithful followers started donating for one here for the felines. Thank you so very much! Then a lady who lives in the community Jan Land also wanted the canines in the big kennel to benefit. The big kennel is way to large to have just one portable unit. Who are we to say no to anyone wanting to help?:) She starting raising money herself for that one unit. So then someone shared it on SCD page and then it hit the front page newspaper. A wonderful lady friend on sent an AC to the shelter, thank you Danita Rainwater. Then a sweet lady offered up a used one for the AC and dropped off at Ritas, the County people could never get this one to work.. WE with my plea, have currently raised enough actual money for three additional portable ACs at 400 estimated each, thank you kind donors!:) Too many to list. . The wiring went amuck and all of the problems happened with portable ACs we were asked to work together with the County Management and find a more suitable and cost effective way manage this situation in the long run. WE Stopped raising money because we wanted to see EXACTLY what we would need and how much this problem would cost to fix entirely versus putting a small band aide on a gun shot wound. ONCE we have a solution we then can continue to raise funding to fix this properly. There is also money from a county contingency fund that will be used to help purchase and cover swamp coolers. Our ACCAB has been getting cost estimates and bids for some time, to install a new central heating and AC for our shelter. We had been told previously that if we could raise the money to install the air, then perhaps the County could work that in a budget. We put a halt on this when we had a possibility of a New Animal Shelter becoming part of the SPLOST! We set our wheels in motion to make that happen. Which is happening! :) Why put a 15,000 AC in a building if there was a chance of a New Building? So there you have it in a nutshell. Animals are happy, cool, and everyone on this end is working together. The money raised on our end will help the animals rather it be AC or swamp coolers for entire shelter. We are working DAILY with the County Commissioners, The Animal Shelter Staff, Construction and Maintenance and County Management, Mr. William Wilson towards a SOLUTION!:) So the reason you havent seen an update here or in the paper as the problem is being worked through, resolved little by little and when the solution is here it will be front page news I am sure:) THE BEST SOLUTION IS TO VOTE YES, TO THE SPLOST, and the animals will have a brand new shelter and HVAC system!!!:) ALWAYS be part of the solution and not part of the problem! ONE voice can turn into many! Have a great day!
