Concerning the cow that was hit on the Zeerust road: On Thursday afternoon the complaint was inspected and the owner of the cow was informed. On Friday it was reported that the owner had done nothing to end the suffering of the cow and steps were taken to end the animals suffering. As the cow had an owner the police cannot shoot it without the consent of the owner as a civil complaint may be opened against the police officer involved. Authorisation from the brigadier and the NSPCA officers had to be obtained before the animal could be humanely destroyed. The cow was shot by a police officer on friday afternoon as she was severly injured and it was recommended by the vet. Further steps will be taken against the owner as help from the SPCA was denied and the animals suffering was prolonged unnecessarily.
