Condore Griffon C110 Ikaruga goes through her first full flight - TopicsExpress

Condore Griffon C110 Ikaruga goes through her first full flight session, including one airworthiness checkride, one nominal power flight and one envelope expansion using a larger motor. The motors used were, in order: 348I204 (29mm), 491I218 (54mm) and 867J244 (54mm). The apogees reached were 367ft, 1042ft and 1052ft respectively. Flight 3 (as indicated in video) ended with the parachute deployed manually, while flights 2 and 4 were deployed by the altimeter at the set floor of 341ft. Flight 4 gave for the longest controlled flight ever in the project, spanning over 2000ft across the field at speeds of over 70mph! Notes: This was the first use of the new elastic-free shock cord, made of solid tubular nylon, equipped with three packs of tape loops on the inner lead to absorb the shock. The results have been phenomenally better and the system is now far more reliable than ever. The carbon fiber reinforcement on the Griffons wing and airframe have made the video signal behave oddly, having some unexpected deadzones. This will be investigated over winter and shouldnt be too much a challenge given the signal was already somewhat usable, especially on flight 4. Flight 4 couldve had a more impressive altitude, but the liftoff trim was set nose down a little too much for the speeds the motor was capable of reaching. Being that every Griffon pilot is new at it, this will take a few more flights to get the hang of. This completes all the milestones required for the Griffon in 2014. One more motor force expansion is planned for late summer 2015 at which point Ikaruga may have a twin sister built up.
