Confab: Delegates Take Over Abuja Hotels As Airlines Make Brisk Business ================ Ahead of the national confab, which will commence on Monday, 17th of March, 2014. Delegates have taken over all the major hotels in the FCT. As it is usual with any major event being sponsored by government, delegates to the National Conference, Nigerian were surprised when it was reported that the Presidency had set aside N7 billion for the organization of the conference, which is expected to chart a new path of socio-economic and political development for the nation. Investigations revealed that five star hotels like Transcorp is fully booked with some of the delegates being turn away. Another mega star hotel, the Sheraton said they are ‘wet listing’ because of the influx of delegates. The case is no different with Nicon Luxury in area 11 while smaller hotels such as Rosebud Hotel,Bolten White Hotel are appealing to government to send some of the delegates to them. But a delegate who spoke with leadership newspaper, but doesn’t want his name in print stated that, he would prefer to collect his money as he has relations in Abuja who can accommodate him for the duration of the conferee. Another delegate also condemn insistence by government officials that they be put in paid hotel because some of them have houses in the city and would be more comfortable coming from their houses. Though no government official could confirm, but it was reported that government has earmarked about four million naira (4m) as accommodation budget for each delegate per month. Meanwhile, capacity at the domestic airline market was highly impacted as some domestic airlines had there seats sold out for all flights to Abuja on Sunday, March 16, due to the national conference scheduled for takeoff in Abuja on Monday. Investigations showed that the domestic airlines are having a rewarding time with their ticket sales as a result of the confab. When LEADERSHIP correspondent tried to book a flight on line on Saturday evening to from Lagos to Abuja, there were no seats available on Dana Air and Aero on their websites. Information at their sites showed that all their flights for Sunday (march 16) are sold out. However, there are seats on Arik Air for Sunday from Lagos to Abuja at N42, 252 and also on Medview Airline at N42, 780, however there are no available seats on Aero for Sunday but there are on Monday at N14000 economy /N36000 business. Dana Air had three scheduled flights on the Lagos to Abuja route on Sunday but they are all sold out First Nation Airways also has seats available from Lagos to Abuja on Sunday from N36000 in business class and N25000 and 16000 in economy class.
