Confession #1...I am typically a fearless person. But, the scariest thing I have done in my life...convincing a person not to commit suicide. Living in Iowa, I became a volunteer certified domestic abuse/rape crisis/suicide counselor. I dealt with every problem imaginable. I think that is why people think I can anything. One night the phone rang, a woman, battling depression, had decided to commit suicide and was calling me to give me her address for her body to be picked up. I can still hear the gun cock clicking sound like it just happened almost 20 years ago. I remember telling her to wait a minute, she could not kill herself yet....I had just ordered a hot pizza and I did not want it to get cold while I took her information down. I spent the next 10 minutes talking to her debating the merits of great pizza and how to make the best glass of koolaid....while I dialed 911 and relaying her info for a police intervention. I can remember hearing her door knock and telling her I had ordered a pizza for her as her last meal. The sound of hearing the cop letting me know they had her made my heart skip beats. If you need help, remember you have friends...and yup, u got me! Amazingly, ....I never ate my pizza....
