Confession: I have never Open Carried (OC) a handgun without having a CPL as an ace in my wallet. Let the truth be told, I didnt even know that OC was legal when I first got my CPL. You see, I didnt get a CPL to backup carrying a handgun. I got the CPL just in case someone decided to rob me - again. However, with the info I now know, I wouldnt advise any newbies to attempt OC without a CPL. Yes, OC is legal without a CPL but there are so many things to be aware of when doing it, that it makes carrying relatively stress-free. The funny part is that when I do OC, I dont obsess over how well I am doing it. In fact, I could care less how my presentation looks or whether an arbitrary fraction of my clothing touches my pistol. Long story short - if you like to OC, get a CPL anyway.
