Confidence is the most important psychological factor in - TopicsExpress

Confidence is the most important psychological factor in differentiating between highly successful athletes and those who are less successful. As strength athletes executing skills we have perfected under challenging conditions the smallest of variations in confidence can determine a successful attempt or failed attempt. Studies have shown that subjects performance was increased when they were not aware of the weight on the bar or when they were intentionally told they were lifting a lighter weight than they actually were. (Fitzimmons, 1991; Ness and Patton, 1979) Confidence can translate to better long term performance as well. An athletes goals and confidence are directly related because those athletes with higher confidence levels will set more challenging goals, and once those goals are accomplished confidence further increases, as well as the difficulty of future goals. As an athlete one of the most powerful tools you have at your disposal is your mind. Believe in yourself and your abilities and watch yourself soar to new heights. - Coach Jacob
