Confirmed: A bill which would impose sanctions on Venezuelan officials who are accused of violating human rights has been approved in the United States Senate. This follows the arrest of thousands of activists who took part in anti-government demonstrations across Venezuela in February of this year. The bill will now head to the House of Representatives for approval. The White House had previously opposed sanctions on Venezuela, but has signaled recently that it could back the bill.
