Confirmed: Facebook the largest social media website went offline across a large section of the globe earlier today, before coming back online. Millions of users were unable to access the website during its offline period, while users in a number of countries were unable to access photo sharing site Instagram. According to Facebook, it has theorised that its own engineers had triggered the problem and downplayed suggestions that that it was the victim of hacking attack.
