Confirmed: The Negril Chamber of Commerce in a media release has denied a claim made to Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC) by Peter Knight, CEO of the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) earlier this month that they at anytime have asked for a Breakwater to be placed in the Negril Harbour to help prevent beach erosion. Mr. Knight informed the PAAC that the Negril stakeholders had told the consultant what they needed to solve the problem, hence the breakwater. This is incorrect as we have never asked for any breakwaters; we have always asked for the funding for beach nourishment and have always been against a hard engineering solution, said Mr. Daniel Grizzle Chairman of the Negril Beach Restoration Committee, and Director Emeritus, of the Negril Chamber of Commerce.
