Confiscate the substantial assets of the Freedom Industries executives to fund the water contamination clean-up! ...In an affidavit filed with the criminal complaint, FBI Special Agent James F. Lafferty II said, “Southern’s goal in making the false and/or deceptive statements is to protect his assets from legal judgments that may result from the lawsuits” filed over the leak. Lafferty said in the affidavit that Southern has at least $7.7 million in pension and retirement accounts at various financial institutions. “There is much at stake for Southern, as he possesses substantial assets,” Lafferty said. As part of Freedom’s bankruptcy case, various officials — including U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Ronald Pearson and the state Department of Environmental Protection — along with lawyers for different parties, have lamented the lack of funding available to clean up the Elk River chemical storage site and to compensate victims of the MCHM leak. Most officials have pointed to Freedom’s $3 million insurance policy as the only money available, while claims filed against the company total more than $176 million. Southern is also named personally as a defendant in two cases over the Freedom leak....
