Confusion Through Sand is a short animation film that is nothing short of astounding. The film, produced by Ornana Studios, follows three members of the military as they fast-rope into enemy territory. They proceed to get separated and as one soldier makes his way through the village, an intense fire fight breaks out and he must survive. “In May 2012, a small & determined group gathered in Georgia to shoot the video reference for Confusion Through Sand. Since then, this film has been touched by a lot of caring hands. We are so grateful for all the work, the insights, the screenings, and the conversations that helped shape Confusion Through Sand. Thank you to our family, friends, and our Kickstarter supporters. Please, enjoy with quality sound,” Ornana writes on their Facebook page. The film was entirely hand-made on recycled paper and was an official selection at SXSW. In an interview with Filmmaker Magazine, director Danny Madden told them “[It started years ago, hearing war stories of kids I went to high school with, others from neighbors who fought in Vietnam. Real, personal stories that are usually a mix of violent and funny and terrifying. Then with this project in mind, we reached out and spoke with more people who were/are involved in these kinds of situations. Turns out there are a lot of stranger and more confusing things happening over there than we know about, many were too far out or frightening to play in a short like this.” The video, only posted one day ago on Vimeo, is already turning heads. Two members of the Vimeo staff commented on the film, one saying the film is “mind-blowingly good” while the other said “One of my favorite films from SXSW last year. Not sure Ive seen another animated short with better camera movement or sound.
