Congrats to my colleagues in the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Maestra Essa Pekka Solonen for two great performances of a newly discovered opera by Shostakovich called Orango and Shostakovich Fourth symphony in Helsinki! Orango is about a half man/half monkey and based on Soviet genetic experiments happening during the cold war.... I had never played Shosti 4-huge trombone solo in the last movement and Darren Acosta is nailing it! Orango has a nice euphonium solo that I got to play for a movement! The orchestra owns a great Bessun euphonium! Next stop-Stockholm!
