Congratulation Indian Judiciary; for putting Jayalalitha to jail Even though belatedly, the Indian judiciary has done yeoman service to the democracy of this country by putting one of the most corrupt, arrogant and egocentric Chief Minister Jayalalitha of Tamilnadu into the jail for amassing ill gotten money. I remember, in 1997 the ‘Sun TV’ showed thousands of pairs of shoes, sarees, hand bags, many many kilos of gold and diamond ornaments, crores of rupees and papers properties of hundreds of crores recovered from her house. We were astounded by that woman could a mass so much of wealth by becoming a chief Minister only for once, by that time. We were describing these properties recovered in details in our public meetings and people enjoyed those stories heartily. But we were really disappointed that no verdict was passed against her for such a long period e.i for long 17 years. Though the Supreme Court transferred the hearing of this case to a Karnatak Court at Bangalore, Jayalalitha used every trick in the book to delay the hearing of this Court. Her ill gotten money helped her to engaged eminent lawers. It is the more corrupt practices projected by the DMK leader Karunanidhi’s family in the 2G scam that brought Jayalalitha back to power. We thought, the judiciary has failed and the case has been postponed sine a die (for uncertain period). We thought that Jayalalitha has purchased victory. But however, the verdict imprisoning her for 4 years and penalizing her for Rs 100 crore along with some of her associates has proved that the democratic institution have matured, strengthened and stabilised with the passage of time. She now joins the criminal group of Lalu Yadav, Om Prakash Chautala in the jail. This verdict will definitely infuse the fear of God in the heart of the high & mighty. She has become powerful only because the people have vested her such. And she can’t misuse that power for personal gain. In the western and developed world the instance of corrupt practice are much less not because the individual character of those people are better than that of us. Corrupt practices there are less because there is the fear of law. And nobody is above law. This fear of law will certainly desist the powerful from looting the public property.
