Congratulations DVLA for cementing yourselves as a typically useless and outdated government agency and putting me in a right sour mood, so much so that Im going to have a rant. Granted theres worse going on in the world but as a law abiding motoring enthusiast it shocked me today to receive a penalty notice for driving with no tax last week. Indeed that is true but it was returning home from an MOT station in which the assessment ended at 13.41, (and was automatically updated on your systems yes?). I was spotted by a camera at 14.00 hours travelling towards the vehicles registered address. Regardless of where I was travelling the automated penalty could have been cross referenced to show that I had just passed an MOT and was returning the vehicle to its SORN point, dont you allow grace anymore post passed MOT or the actual ability to get to a tax office/home to tax a vehicle/home back to its SORN point? Or am I meant to ship the car home? You have to have an MOT to tax a car yes? But my main issue lies with the fact you provide no way of contesting or explaining reason(s) beyond writing a letter, as Maureen on the phone pointed out after a ten minutes wait. Regardless of the environmental/carbon offset issues in a letter, Im to spend my time writing a letter and providing photocopies of paperwork when I work and have a young child to look after, in an age of email and databases, when Ive done nothing wrong. All this is just to see if anything can be done according to Maureen as she cant discuss anything over the phone, like its the password for the CIA Im asking for... Im driving home tonight and theres a van with no lights working to which I nearly ploughed into, why dont you get him you useless shits. You are as useless as tits on a pig. Probably not the coolest story youll hear today but a story regardless.
