Congratulations on your retirement from daily sports, Mr. Shane. I worked with Donny for three years when I was on staff with TeleVideo Studios in Troy doing programming for Chrysler Satellite Network. He was always the antithesis of a prima donna television personality. He knew us all by name in the control room, in the studio, in the edit bays, and he always made a point to say Hello and Goodbye and ask about life events like weddings and babies. Don is a total class act and although I never got into the habit of watching WXYZ -- Especially after Mr. Erik Smith was dismissed for no good reason, I will always remember Don Shane as being one of the good guys. We had a lot of fun, and when it came to changing words in the TelePrompTer with Maureen Dailey, he was the best sport (pun, I think). My favorite will always be when he was talking about the wonderful benefits of the 1993 Grand Cherokee or whatever and the text went something like (after a little tweak)... And this is one Jeep that can take on any obstacle, including dirt roads with huge washboard terrain, like the stomach of Paul Starnes (my producer who shared my body style at the time, which was a little less than ripped to be honest). Don got a couple more sentences past that, and just lost all control. We all laughed for a good ten minutes. Good luck, Donny. Enjoy your retirement. You served our city well and we will not soon forget you.
