Congratulations to Coach Gus Kapolka for being named the Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week for Week #3 Each week throughout the 2014 nine-week high school football regular season, one coach that best develops his players’ character, discipline, and football skill in addition to emphasizing player health and safety in their program, will be recognized for his commitment to the team, school, and community. The winner is selected by a panel of high school football media members — Mick McCabe (Detroit Free Press), Hugh Bernreuter (Saginaw News), Bret Bakita (WOOD Radio-106.9 FM, ESPN 96.1 FM, Fox 17 TV/Grand Rapids), Scott DeCamp (Mlive/Muskegon) and James Cook (Traverse City Record-Eagle). Below is a link regarding the Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Week. detroitlions/youth-programs/coach-of-the-week.html The football program/athletic department will receive a $2000 donation from the Detroit Lions, the NFL Foundation and Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan. In addition to that, Coach Kapolka will be acknowledged via public address announcement/video board at the September 21 Detroit Lions-Green Bay Packers game, receive a congratulatory certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and a congratulatory letter from Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell. Coach Kapolka will also be acknowledged during our Coach of the Week/Year Ceremony on Sunday December 14 when the Lions take on the Minnesota Vikings.
