Congratulations to Dr. Michael Cromwell on his commissioning as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. The commissioning service will be held in Athens at the Classic Center on Tuesday June 10 at 7:30 p.m. Anyone who would like to attend to support Michael is invited to meet in front of the Classic Center at 6:15 p.m. so everyone can sit together. The service also will be streamed live at ngumc.org/ac2014 for those who are unable to attend. As a Deacon, Michael has been appointed to Hillside in his current role as Minister of Worship. Deacons, like Elders, are called to serve the local congregation and are appointed by the Bishop. Unlike Elders (Dr. Doug, Rev. Linda Evans, and Rev. Ross Wheeler), Deacons are non-itinerant appointments. What this means for Hillside is that while Michael is appointed, he is not subject to being moved to another church during the re-appointment process.
