Congratulations to Green Flag Award Winning Sites in Conwy This year, Keep Wales Tidy has awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award to a record 61 parks and 56 community managed green spaces in Wales. The award recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces in the country as well as driving up the quality of green space. Nine sites in Conwy County Borough have scooped prestigious Green Flag Awards this year and Conwy County Borough Council is extremely proud to earn the right to fly the Green Flag and to receive recognition of the high standards maintained throughout the year. The nine sites to retain their green flag status are: Great Orme Country Park and Local Nature Reserve Wynn Gardens, Old Colwyn Happy Valley, Llandudno Bodlondeb Park and Local Nature Reserve Queens Gardens, Colwyn Bay Cae Derw, Llandudno Junction Llanrhos Cemetery, Llanrhos Pentre Mawr Park, Abergele Bryn Euryn Allotments and Local Nature Reserve This year, the Great Orme Country Park and Local Nature Reserve has also been awarded a Green Heritage Award. To achieve Green Heritage accreditation judges look at the extent to which the heritage value of the site is understood, acknowledged and shared, and the efforts made to conserve, enhance and help people enjoy the heritage value of the site. Cllr Mike Priestley, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Environment said: “These accolades are a testament to all the hard work by parks staff, countryside wardens, local community groups, partner organisations and local residents. We’re really pleased to have retained our green flags, but receiving a Green Heritage Award for the Great Orme Country Park is exceptional – one of just two awarded in Wales this year.” “Well done and thank you to everyone that put so much hard work into achieving these awards.” Joanna Friedli, Green Flag Co-ordinator for Wales commented: “Keep Wales Tidy is extremely proud that so many parks and green spaces in Wales have reached the high standards necessary to achieve Green Flag status. The feedback received from our experienced volunteer judges in regards to the dedication and effort shown by staff and volunteers at these parks has been fantastic. I would like to pass on our congratulations to every single park receiving the Green Flag Award 2013/2014 and the Community Awards 2013/14 and hope that together we can continue to raise the standards of parks and green space in Wales and provide our communities with fantastic facilities to enjoy throughout the year.” Check out all the green flag parks in Wales at greenflagaward.org or keepwalestidy.org
