Congratulations to Irelands new World Champion Olive Loughnane, its taken 6 years but justice is about to be done. Olive was a great supporter of Galway Community Games and spend many years at the National Finals in Mosney as an Galway Athletic Manager. We are really proud of Olives achievements. Olive Loughnane could be in line for a World Championship gold after the Russian athlete Olga Kaniskina who was awarded the gold in the womens 20km walk in Berlin in August 2009, with Olive finishing second. Russian anti doping body RUSADA have advised that Kaniskina will now have all her results between 15 July 2009 and 16 September 2009 cancelled, If confirmed by IAAF, this would move Olive to the Gold medal position and she would become only the fourth Irish athlete to win a world gold, after Eamonn Coghlan, Sonia OSullivan and Rob Heffernan.
