Congratulations to Jack Goodhue who is one of the New Wider Training Squad members for the All Blacks Sevens. MEDIA RELEASE: THREE of last years BNZ Condor Sevens tournament team will be out to impress Sir Gordon Tietjens this week. New Wider Training Squad member Elias Jack Goodhue, Nathaniel Apa and Vilimoni Koroi will all attend the All Blacks Sevens training camp at Mt Maunganui ahead of the IRB Tokyo and Hong Kong Sevens. Goodhue, the Head Boy at Mt Albert Grammar School last year, was invited by the master coach after representing his home province Northland at the Bayleys National Sevens in January. The 18-year old is a midfielder in the XV-a-side game, twin brother Josh represented the New Zealand Secondary Schools as a lock and older brother Cam is a professional player at the Worcester Warriors. Apa captained Kelston BHS to beat Scots College 19-12 to win the BNZ Condor Sevens last December. The 18-year old, who plays centre or wing, is now with Linwood in Canterbury where he was recently selected for the Crusaders Knights. Sixteen year old Koroi, originally from Suva, was selected out of Wanganui HS where he made the Wanganui Under-16 team and was named MVP at the Hurricanes Under 15 tournament. However, the all-round sportsman - he won the intermediate 100m and made the New Zealand U17 touch team - has moved to Feilding HS for 2014. Its the third year in a row Tietjens has welcomed promising players into camp. We are delighted to continue to promote young talent through the BNZ Condor Sevens into the national system, said Club Chairman Eddie Mei. The popularity of Sevens in this age-group is rising rapidly and we have no doubt these three boys, and many others from recent years, already have their eye on Rio 2016, where Sevens makes its Olympic debut. All Blacks Aaron Smith, Sam and Luke Whitelock (all Feilding HS), Tawera Kerr-Barlow (Hamilton BHS), Steven Luatua (MAGS) and Sam Cane (Tauranga Boys College), along with numerous Super Rugby players, have appeared in the Condor Sevens tournament team in recent years. Those who have played for the All Blacks Sevens include Akira Ioane (AGS), Trinity Spooner- Neera (Napier BHS), Lolagi Visinia and Pita Ah Ki (both Kelston BHS), Joe Webber and Kylem ODonnell (both Hamilton BHS), Iopu Iopu, Rocky Khan and Tutu Tairea (all MAGS) and Nafi Tuitavake (Massey HS). The 28th BNZ Condor Sevens is scheduled for November 29-30 at Kelston Boys High School.
