Congratulations to Prosecutor Adlai Smith who continues to make history in the High Court. Adlai prosecuted first case of its kind two weeks ago, when Georgette Aaron was found guilty of perverting the course of justice when she lied in her statement, saying that young men who went on a killing spree in 2008 were with her at Lions Den during period when the double murder of honey-mooning couple took place. Last week, a young woman was charged again with perverting the course of justice after she testified in the High Court, saying she did not remember anything that happened after she was violently raped for two hours by her x boyfriend. There is an investigation pending into a report that young woman was paid off. And now, Adlai is putting all Lawyers in Antigua and Barbuda on notice saying there is increasing evidence rape victims are being paid off so that they will not proceed with any further action against their alleged perpetrators. Adlai said that Lawyers will face the brunt of the law if they are caught brokering any deals between accused rapists and their victims. Smith said he received reports that Lawyers were involved in making up these cases, acting as middle-men;, and transferring funds between victims and their alleged abusers. If it comes to my attention that any lawyer is involved in that kind of behavior, he/she will find themselves needing a lawyer down at St Johns Police Station Adlai, thanks for your hard work. Now, please extend those charges to the police , who also act as middle-men and transfer funds between victims and their alleged abusers.
