Congratulations to SSM Health Cares very own golden girl – Sr. Kathleen Buchheit, FSM, or Sr. Kathy, as many call her, who celebrated her Golden Jubilee as a Franciscan Sister of Mary on Sunday. Thats 50 years of dedication and service to her ministry; nine of those years shes also carried out SSMs mission. For those whove met Sr. Kathy, shes impossible to forget. If you havent had the pleasure of her acquaintance, youve likely heard of her. As the director of mission integration in St. Louis, Sr. Kathys accomplishments are many. She was instrumental in the creation of the ever-popular SSM Mission Glee Choir and is the face of the live SSM Heritage Tour. She also helped develop employee Mission Days in St. Louis and worked to establish the employee relief fund. Through these admirable endeavors, Sr. Kathy has touched the lives of numerous SSM employees. Don Eggleston, system vice president of mission integration, describes Sr. Kathy as a nurturer. She works tirelessly and goes beyond her regular duties, he said. Sr. Kathy has a way with people. She makes them feel comforted, because she truly cares about whats happening in their lives. One spiritual writer says that holy people have a happy inability to think of anything but service, compassion, justice and encouragement. Sr. Kathy fits that bill. Congratulations, Sr. Kathy, on your Golden Jubilee!
