Congratulations to Seahawk Emily Abney! She will be graduating from UNCW this week with a B.A. in Spanish. As a Spanish major, Abney enjoys immersing herself in the food, the culture and the music of Latin America. During her time at UNCW, she studied abroad in Costa Rica and volunteered at Mary C. Williams Elementary School in Wilmington. There, she was able to use her skills as a translator to help Spanish-speaking children, their teachers and their parents communicate more clearly. While Spanish may not be her native tongue, the language and the people who speak it have become a part of her heart, and Abney looks forward to a lifetime of sharing her love of Latin American culture with others. She hopes to continue her work as a translator and may eventually pursue licensure as an ESL instructor. Congrats, Emily! #UNCW2014
