Congratulations to all who received The Officers’ Cross at the Annual Jenever Cross Ceremony at the Dutch Embassy! The Officers’ Cross is a military decoration which is given to Officers in the Netherlands Forces who have served at least 15 years as an Officer in active duty. The decoration was established on 19 November 1844 by King Willem II and has been presented ever since on King Willem II’s birthday, 6 December, each year. The tradition in the Officers’ Mess was to drink a glass of Jenever (Dutch gin) during this ceremony, which is why the decoration is also known as the Jenever Cross.
