Congratulations to all who worked hard to achieve a GigaTown victory. Its a welcome kickstart to Dunedins economy. I am realistic about the ability of many Dunedinites to access fibre in the short term., let alone pay for a giga connection. But I applaud the amazing dedication of the campaign. Tonight I spoke in parliament about Dunedins success and the importance of all the campaigns in raising awareness of the importance of connectivity to regional NZ. Nelson, Gisborne, Wanaka and Timaru all fought a great fight. I didnt think Dunedin could win so I will now eat my hat. Thankfully I didnt promise to run naked through the Octagon!
