Congratulations to our Caregiver of the Year award recipient, Amy Manhan of St. Vincents HealthCare! Amy Manhan was first known by her nursing peers as one of their patients. She was working in a telemetry unit when she discovered she had a pericardial cyst that needed to be removed via open heart surgery. Ms. Manhan was so moved by the life changing experience that post surgery she began a journey to become an open heart recovery nurse. Ms. Manhan’s passion for caring for the open heart patients is quite evident. As someone who has been in their position, she identifies and empathizes with them. Ms. Manhan was born to be a nurse. For her, it is truly a calling. She is compassionate beyond belief. She is the nurse you want taking care of your loved one. Her patients and their families constantly say how wonderful she is to them. Ms. Manhan’s scope of practice does not end when she leaves the hospital or when her patients are discharged. She remembers her patients even after they leave the hospital and goes above and beyond to help them overcome life challenges, even on her personal time. Ms. Manhan is very humble and quiet as she fulfills her calling as a nurse. She is a joy to work with and an amazing role model for her colleagues.
