Congratulations to our honorary member and wonderful host Jill Ker Conway on receiving the National Humanities Medal awarded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and presented to her by President Barack Obama! In addition, from her homeland, Jill has been chosen as a member of the Order of Australia, which honors Australians for achievement and meritorious service. According to the Daily Hampshire Gazette, the endowment selected Jill for a medal based on her many professional achievements: a women’s history scholar, she holds a Ph.D. from Harvard; an author, she has written three memoirs beginning with her best-selling 1989 book, “The Road from Coorain”; a college administrator, she was our first woman president at Smith College beginning in 1975. She was also selected for her leadership on numerous corporate and nonprofit boards. Currently, Jill is the head of the board for Community Solutions, a new national nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness. It is with great pleasure that we share this announcement and thank Jill for hosting several of our club events in 2012.
