Congratulations to the Goshen High School Class of 1964 on its 50-year reunion weekend. I was privileged to be part of their program - making presentations of GHS basketball shirts to Bill Edson, Rodney Mack, Jim Miller, Ivan Makximenko and Paul Williams. They, along with Kurt Schelle and the late John Corporon, were juniors on the 1962-63 GHS team which was 24-2, NIC champs, sectional champs and ranked No. 5 in the state. Seniors on that team were Ron Miller, Randy Saal, Fred Hostetler and Doug Smith. Art Cosgrove was head coach. A basketball, signed by players from both classes, will be displayed in the GHS dressing room. Thanks to Coach Brian Bechtel for his contributions. Received an E-Mail this morning from Fred Hostetler who lives in India. It reads: Dear Teammates and the great Class of 1964: It is said a team is as good as its weakest link. The great GHS basketball team of 1963 did not show any weak links. It showed individuals willing to do anything for the betterment of the team. You guys played a great supporting role and were integral parts of the teams success. These great teammates worked very hard in practice to get us ready for each game. Their support sustained us and they were ready to play when needed. I have fond memories of your dedication and lighthearted style which had Coach Cosgrove pulling up his socks at times. I really believe that humor helped us relax for games. That great season could never have happened without you juniors. A great thank you to our teammates, your families and the great Class of 1964 for helping establish this legacy which has helped us through life. On this night of celebration, lets pause to remember Coach Cosgrove and your classmate John Corporon. John was an incredible teammate, a fierce competitor and just a great guy. Please make sure their names are added to the basketball. Sweet basketball dreams. Peace and love. Fred Hostetler with Doug Smith, Randy Saal and Ron Miller. GHS Class of 1963.
