Congratulations to this month’s hospital heroes: South Georgia Medical Center Executive Chef Reggie Donaldson and Director of Critical Care Tom Calabro. These two SGMC employees have received both state and national awards and recognition for their outstanding work. Donaldson received the Willis Williams Spirit of Service Award for Culinary Excellence from Morrison Health, a leading contract food and nutrition services company for hospitals and health systems across the United States. Donaldson was nominated for the award by SGMC and competed against a dozen finalists from across the nation. He was selected for his ability to deliver flavor with wellness in mind, incorporating great-tasting, healthy food for patients, visitors and staff at SGMC. Notable achievements from the past year include lowering food cost by 6 percent, developing two team members through participation in chef certification programs, and conducting daily patient rounds without fail. Calabro was named the 2014 March of Dimes Georgia Nurse of the Year in the Critical Care category. Tom was nominated because he demonstrates an ongoing commitment to patient safety and quality which is evidenced by his initiation of a nursing residency program and interdisciplinary patient rounding. His can-do attitude is demonstrated daily in his activities with patients and staff.
