Congress and his illegal child Kejrival is spreading misinformation in Haryana and Punjab especially to sikhs that they are not safe under Modi ji’s rule as Gujrat Govt has snatched land from sikh farmers in Kutch. Kutch being a barren region, Lal Bahadur shastri had, as a matter of policy, invited ex-servicemen from Punjab and Haryana, largely Sikhs, to settle down here in the aftermath of the 1965 war with Pakistan. These farmers played no small a role in the greening of Kutch and revolutionized agriculture in the desolate barrenscape. However, with increasing industrialisation as the price of land shot up to dizzying heights, a sense of envy engulfed local people leading to complaints and social tension, triggering a chain of events that led the Kutch district collector to freeze the lands of more than 1,000 Sikh and Haryanvi farmer families and had taken all their records into his custody. The Gujarat government said the action was taken under the provisions of the 1972 Kutch Area Tenancy Act and the Gujarat Tenancy Act that prohibited tillers from outside Gujarat to own farm-land in the state. Government rules do not permit purchase of agricultural land by non-agriculturists in Kutch even if they are of Gujarat origin and the government used the Bombay Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act 1948 to freeze the land holdings of these farmers whom it suspected to have infringed it. Around 30 non-Gujarat agriculturists who have been living in Kutch since 1966 had approached the Gujarat High Court in 2008. The court, in a landmark judgement in June, 2012, ruled that a farmer from anywhere in India could purchase agricultural land in Gujarat by quashing a 1972 state government circular that barred farmers from outside Gujarat to own land. The Gujarat Government however moved the Apex Court challenging the order of the High court. Recently in December 2013, the Kutch collector Harshad Patel has stated on record We have defrozen the land of 52 farmers after it was found that the state government had given them santhani (given to landless labourers for farming) land. However, we cannot defreeze land of other claimant farmers as they are not farmers or Santhani land holders as per the government records, We will take a final decision after the Supreme Court decides on the matter,. However Narendra Modi said on February 23 in Jagraon that no Sikh farmer settled in Gujarat’s Kutch region will have to leave the state. He said “misinformation” was being spread that Sikh farmers, who were cultivating the land for decades, were being uprooted from the Kutch area by the Gujarat government. Let me assure you that no Sikh farmer will be forced to leave Gujarat. Instead, if any officer has done anything wrong (in this regard), he will have to go,” Narendra Modi sent two tweets immediately after his Ludhiana meeting on 23rd February, 2014: Tweet 1: Farmers from Punjab have done excellent work in Kutch! Sadly, some people with vested interests are more interested in misleading the people. Tweet 2: Our nation is one! No Sikh farmer will ever be asked to leave Kutch. They are an integral part of Gujarat & the state belongs to them. The issue however acquired a political colour in Punjab where the Congress began using it as an issue to attack the SAD government, an ally of the BJP. Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal had also interceded with Chief Minister Modi who had promised all possible help.It is expected that a case-by-case review is learnt to be underway and those who have produced relevant records are likely to benefit. timesofindia.indiatimes/india/Gujarat-defreezes-land-of-52-Sikh-farmers/articleshow/27611790.cms freepressjournal.in/now-sikh-farmers-in-kutch-can-smile/ truthofgujarat/throwing-sikh-farmers-gujarat-modi-now-lies-ludhiana-meeting/ sikhsiyasat.net/2014/02/23/narendra-modi-claims-no-sikh-farmer-would-be-uprooted-from-gujrat-but-fails-to-deliver-any-word-about-case-in-supreme-court/ with Dr. Gagan Preet Singh, Dr. Harmeet Waraich, @ tajinder pal singh bagga
