Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. HAPPY FREE SPEECH WEEK!!!! Can you believe its already Free Speech Week again...just seems like yesterday we were celebrating this most treasured of holiday seasons. Think of all the little girls and little boys dreaming of a week so full of noise. This time of the year, when Free Speech week is here. The third week of October is Free Speech Week, an annual celebration of this pivotal freedom. Really, you didnt realize what week this is? I hope you do remember that free speech is as important to the health of our country as the circulatory system is to the health of the body. If oxygen doesnt reach every cell, poisons build up. And if new opinions and accurate information doesnt reach each and every citizen, much the same thing happens – and the poisons are ignorance, bigotry and cynicism. ...and just last month, our Presidents Justice (or lack of) Department announced, “This prosecution demonstrates our deep resolve to hold accountable anyone who would violate their solemn duty to protect our nation’s secrets and to prevent future, potentially devastating leaks by those who would wantonly ignore their obligations to safeguard classified information.” (Eric Holder) OR This prosecution shows the depth of our contempt for civil liberties. Let this be a lesson to journalists and would-be leakers alike. (My perspective). After all, what country was ever destroyed because people had too much freedom and too much truthful and unbiased information?
