Congressman Chris Gibson Today, the Obama Administration denied - TopicsExpress

Congressman Chris Gibson Today, the Obama Administration denied Individual Assistance for disaster recovery to victims of the recent flooding, including in Fort Plain. The FEMA Disaster Recovery account has more than sufficient funds to cover this damage and other storms. Therefore, the decision to utilize the funds lies solely with the Obama Administration, not Congress. Public Assistance – for localities – was approved on Friday. It is unacceptable to me that FEMA today denied Individual Assistance. Having just been in Fort Plain on Saturday, I cannot express more strongly how critical this aid money is to local residents They need help rebuilding their homes, businesses and lives, and FEMA’s decision is flat-out wrong. Just as I stood by victims of Superstorm Sandy to ensure they got swift aid – and we helped those devastated by Hurricanes Irene and Lee – these communities deserve no less. There is an appeal process we can utilize and I will be a tireless advocate for Fort Plain. I know I can count on Governor Cuomo and the rest of the New York Delegation to be as vocal about this aid as they have been about past storms and express to President Obama this is the wrong decision. We will not accept this outcome as final and, again, I urge the President to authorize these funds immediately.
