Congressman Crowley Announces New Online Resource to Help New Yorkers Navigate Affordable Care Act Oct 1, 2013 Issues: Health Care (Washington, D.C.) - To coincide with the opening of the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance marketplace on October 1, 2013, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) has announced the launch of his new online resource dedicated to providing New Yorkers with information about the new health care law, answers to common questions and the tools necessary to see if they will qualify for financial assistance. The information center can be found on his official website at: crowley.house.gov/healthcare. “The opportunity for uninsured New Yorkers to purchase quality, affordable healthcare coverage is finally here,” said Rep. Crowley. “To help guide consumers through the many ways they can take advantage of the new law, I have created a new site that provides a central clearinghouse for helpful information and resources.” The site offers user-friendly information about the Affordable Care Act’s benefits and the promising changes coming to New Yorkers. Those who log on will find links to New York State’s marketplace and information about how to enroll in brand-name insurance plans. In addition, the site details the several ways in which individuals, families and small businesses can get help paying for their health insurance. These options range from tax credits that lower the cost of premiums to subsidy payments covering out-of-pocket costs like co-payments for medical procedures. “Under the Affordable Care Act, 1.5 million New Yorkers are expected to be eligible for tax credits to help bring down the cost of health insurance,” added Rep. Crowley. “I urge everyone who has difficulty paying for health insurance to visit the New York State of Health marketplace, where they can see how much financial help they may be able to receive.” Crowley’s site is part of his comprehensive outreach efforts to promote the health care law to small businesses, consumers and families.
