Coniece Washington did a fantastic job at her Blue Bar debut performance last night. The Blue Bar at the Henley Park hotel in Washington DC was the perfect place for her three sets of Jazz Standards, Pop and R&B songs. It was also a debut for many of the guest singers she invited up to the stage. Nice of you to do that Coniece. William Knowles was on the baby grand piano. I was astounded at how many gifted vocalists were in the room. The greater DC area has such a vibrant music scene and an abundance of musical talent. Looks like the Blue Bar may be the place to be for vocalists on Saturday nights. Thats just what DC needs and I know many vocalists and instrumentalists will support it. Coniece had a stunning list of songs and worked her way through them flawlessly. Her first set songs were energized and focused. Im Glad There Is You and Fly Me To The Moon sounded new and fresh. She also showed off her scatting chops and her innate sense of Swing on How High The Moon. One of my favorites. Her second and final sets did not disappoint. The high energy continued. Some of the stand out songs were Heres To Life, Them There Eyes and On a Clear Day. A special mention on her breathtaking rendition of Lush Life is warranted here. As all vocalists know this is not an easy song to sing. Coniece did a stellar job and enthralled the audience with her interpretation of Strayhorns immortal lyrics or unrequited love. Thanks to all the singers and instrumentalists Coniece called up to the stage. Hope I have them all.
