Connected © Hey there! My name is Jerome William, well right now until 7am you can just call me Officer William. I am the night shift leader here at Mondale Correctional Facility. I am a single man with no children that I know of and I am an extremely hard worker. In fact I can barely keep my eyes open right now because I have been right here working this whole weekend only able to catch a nap here and there. Why have I worked this whole weekend you ask? Oh, thats because all of the other officers have come down with that pesky flu bug that is floating around. Why havent I caught it then you say? Well I just believe that the good Lord above feels as though I have been sick enough in my day and just blessed me with a super strong immune system. Well at least that is what I tell everyone. The truth is, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer when I was around twelve years old. This doctor from the community hospital asked my parents if he could try out this new experimental drug on me. My parents said yes because they couldnt afford the conventional cancer treatments and this doctor was so eager to test his new serum that he agreed to treat me for free. Long story short, whatever the man did to me not only caused my cancer to go into remission but I havent so much as gotten the sniffles since. Now as I have gotten older, I realize that it wasnt the doctor that cured me. I now realize that it was God simply working through the doctor. With my new perspective, I have witnessed Gods power in others and seen them do things that you wouldnt believe was even possible. Like I know this one guy. . .hold on, what time is it? I have to make my rounds. You can come with me. I would appreciate the company. Mostly all of the inmate will be sleep because they have all been on 24 hour lockdown over the weekend since we are so short staffed. In addition to that, most of the inmates have caught the flu bug too. Aw man this is funny. Hurry up and come closer and look over there. Yall see them over there brushing their hair. They basically brush their hair all day long. Oh my fault, I guess you wondering whats so funny. Well look over to the left of the cell block. You see those guys staring at the ones brushing their hair. Okay, this is an all male facility. The guys in this block actually see those guys over there as women. They call them female names and everything. Watch this, Hey Sean! Come to the bars please. The two men with the extremely long straightened hair looked at each other. The taller one said, I know he talking to me with his ugly self trying to be funny all the time. The taller one heard his name being called again and didnt want Officer William to open the door and make sure he never forgot his name again so he said with all the neck and eye rolling a human body could stand, The name is Shawna, and you bets to stop disrespecting me before you gets delt wit. See what I mean yall they have some characters up in here. Watch this. Sean walked to the bars and said, What. . . do. . . . you. . . want! I. . ..dont. . ..want . . .anything. . .except. . . for . . .you. . to . . .remember. . .that. . you . . . are. . .a . . .boy! I almost peed my pants at that one. The inmates that are awake didnt even laugh. They didnt get the joke because they had really accepted the fact that Sean is actually a woman. Now I must admit that Sean and Carl do look like women with the help of the illegal hormone pills they have been taking for years now, but these guys know goodness well that no real women can be locked up with them! Anyway, lets keep walking. This cell block right here is normally completely off the chain. When these guys get out of here the whole world will have changed on them a few times over. Im praying for them. Most of them will be so scared and feel so out of place due to all of the changes when they get out that they will just do something to come right back here just to feel normal again. Most of these guys will die in here. Yeah, its really sad. I have met some of the most intelligent men in here. Ive come to know some guys that are more athletic than most in professional sports, and some artist that would blow your minds with their drawings and paintings. There is so much unfulfilled potential here. Lets go down here a little further. Oh Lord, here comes the Wardens pet, Sanchez. He about to say something crazy. I bet you. Hey Jerome, the Warden needs you to stay a few more hours. You tell the Warden I said Oh Hell Naw! Excuse my language yall. You gotta act crazy around here or they will try to walk all over you. Sanchez looked around and said, Who are you talking to Jerome? Well I am talking to you. I know that, but who else are you talking to? Oh, my friends the readers. They just making the rounds with me before I sit down and tell them the story. Oh, now I see them. Man, its a lot of them. You not gonna get nervous are you? Are you going to tell them the whole story? No I wont get nervous, you trippin! I gotta tell the whole story in order for it to make any sense, you know that. Officer Willam, you mind if I talk to them for a second? Be my guest, just dont say anything crazy or I might have to punch you in the face. Someone special to me trusted me to handle them with care. I understand. Hey guys I just wanted to tell you that you are about to hear an amazing story. Not a jail story either. A life story. We have been trying to get Officer William to write a book or a movie script or something for years now. The story will seem to be all over the place in the beginning but trust me, EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED! It will take him some hours to share it all. I say just buckle up. The story covers everything you have ever seen, felt, or heard about. You will laugh, cry, dance, think, get angry and be inspired beyond measure to be better and do better. I leave you with just one warning. If you cant handle life in its realest forms, please just walk away now. Those of you who can, get ready to be blessed. Through the mess, through the test awaits Gods best. Sanchez you got me teared up over her bro. I never knew that the story made you feel like that. Yeah, why you think I always listen to it. I have heard it three or four times just like some of them, but I just like them cant hear it enough. I hear something different each time. I appreciate that. I dont take credit for it though. I was just blessed to see it all unfold. Ill be back up here by the time you finish walking the floor. A Sanchez, tell the Warden that I dont mind staying a while longer. Cool. Alright yall stay right here. Im going to walk the rest of the hall alone to review the story in my head, pray for you all and when I get back we will get started. Whats that maam? Why am I going to pray for yall? Well you will see, if you stay. . . Oh yeah and if you decide to stay for this ride. . .please just say Im staying in the comments... Jermaine will then invite you to a closed reading group. . .hope to see you there. . .this will be off the chain. . .I promise!
