Connecting with the Community with Mama Lanas Wednesday 14th January The team from Penrith Church of Christ were back on deck tonight after having a couple of weeks R & R. It was so good to see everyone again and catch up on all the news! We lost count of the number of patrons once we got to 70 - they just kept arriving! Perhaps it was the smell of the BBQ that drew such a big crowd - such a great way to finish off a hot Aussie summers day. Tonights menu consisted of steak, sausages, frankfurts & bbq salami (a big hit with the patrons, although it caused Papa Roger to break out in a sweat!!). This was accompanied by fried rice, noodles, pasta salad, potato salad and tossed salad. Dessert was pudding, custard and fruit salad. It was literally all gone in a flash and the team received so many lovely compliments. Fresh fruit and a variety of sandwiches were also provided for patrons to take away. Emu Plains Donut King donated an amazing array of donuts. The children who were under the bridge tonight had eyes as big as saucers when the donuts came out - needless to say they really enjoy these little treats. Our team had a surprise for the patrons tonight in the form of Happy New Year hygiene packs. These packs consisted of essential items such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, wipes and the like. It was fun to be able to surprise the patrons with these small gifts - they were very appreciative. There is nothing better than giving a gift just because you can. There was a lot of laughter and good natured ribbing tonight - perhaps the start of a new year causes people to be in good spirits as they old year and all its baggage is left behind and the new year holds the promise of better things to come. What a privilege it is to share the journey of life in an environment of value, acceptance and belonging. Were looking forward to a great year with MLCF and all the patrons. Janelle, on behalf of the Penrith Church of Christ Team
