Keith says, That ancient Greek philosophy has any impression over Indian philosophy is the most illusive guesstimate. We can only figure it out by comparing the age of both philosophy. While India Vedic philosophy is very ancient, the father of Greek philosophy, Thales was born in 640 BC. So it is clear that after long spiritual development of Indian philosophy, Greek philosophy was born. According to Garbe, “The principles of famous Greek philosophers like Heraclitus, Empedocles, Anaxagoras, Democritus and Epicurus are fully based on the Sankhya Philosophy by KradamPutra Kapil Maharaj and there is no doubt that Pythagoras was also a follower of Sankhya. Same is with Gnostic and Neo-Platonic philosophy. Dr. Winternitz also wholeheartedly accepted it. The main Eleatic philosophy is that this world is not separated and all this earthly scenes are illusion or Maya same like Vedanta. Greek philosopher Empedocles says, What is Asat, cant be created and Sat cant be destroyed. just like Sankhya. Heraclitus gave the description of AgniTatwa fire element just like Vedas. Also the words used by him are distorted form Vedic words. There is an anecdote in Greek that says that Thales, Empedocles, Anaxagoras, Democritus and other Greek philosopher went to East (India) for education. Indian philosophy entered Greece via Persia. In 600 BC, Persian King Daruis has won some areas of Punjab and Greece and his court was the fusion of both Indian and Greek scholars. Now take an example of Pythagoras, His philosophy believes in rebirth, five elements (air, water, earth, fire and firmament), infinite spiritual growth that is just like Sankya and Vedic theory. Even Greek people accept that all was borrowed from India because there was no any way. Egyptian culture of that time didnt believe in these principles. Pythagoras Theorem was also borrowed by Bouthayan shulvasutra. It is the weakness of Indians that the credit was given to Greeks. Apart from that Pythagoras establish a group of saints Whose principles were, Brahmcharya, MounVrat, non-Violence, mediation and Dharana, Guru-pupil tradition, Deeksha and many more. Maxmullar says that at the time of Sukrat (469BC-399BC), Indian philosopher used to go Athens. Once a Debate between Sukrat and an Indian philosopher took place. Sukrat said, My philosophy is like a research on the life of humans. Indian philosopher laughed and said, “Without understanding divine element, nobody can understand the humanity and purpose of its presence on this earth. Plato the greatest Greek philosopher was also influenced by Indian philosophy.Maxmullar and Emerson accepts it. Prof. E. J. Urwick wrote in his book, The principle established by Plato in his book Republic was merely an echo of Indian philosophy. Maxmullar says, Plato used the same metaphor of Veda i.e. soul is one who sits in the chariot of body and our senses are horses of that Chariot. Then came Plotinus (205 AD) when Alexandria has turned a rendezvous of Indian and Greek philosophers. The guy brought Neo-Platonism whose influence is also perceived on Christians Mystics. Historians have proved with many examples that his philosophies are made of the base of Indian philosophy of spirituality. Kindly read the lectures given as The Philosophy of Plotinus by William Ralf Inge. E Breheir a great researcher Neo-Platonism has clearly accepted that Plotinus was inspired by the Tatwa Gyan by Upanishadas. Dr. Jean Przyluski has proved that Iranian Sadhak Mani learned the spirituality in India and he returned to his country in 240 AD and Plotinus took Diksha from Mani on the TatwaGyan of India.
