Connie Harris LOVES Jon Gruden!! nypost/2014/11/13/wont-someone-at-espn-stop-jon-gruden-and-mike-tirico/ It’s among television’s most befuddling bafflements: Regardless of how much time, money and technology are invested in sports, not one network stands out for presenting sports the best, or even better. They’re all driven to copy and “improve upon” the dopiest ideas. As for off-air announcer coaches and advisers, well, few announcing teams actually get better; they’re as good or as bad as the day they met. That’s where we come in. True, we have no TV production experience, thus the network executive or two who might be reading this has to accept we’re dealing not from anything more useful to them than common sense. But let’s start with ESPN’s Monday Night Football, often made insufferable by the here-we-go-again, super-caffeinated analysis and extensive nonsense-talking of Jon Gruden, now in his sixth year of proving that he and boothmate Mike Tirico can’t be improved or won’t be improved. Or do they meet or exceed ESPN’s high standards of what it presents to national audiences, those that include us? But as long as Gruden isn’t going to hush-up, why not make him interesting. Why not make his weakness a strength?
