Conservatives Vote Against Incumbent Todd Young in Straw Poll By Lindsey Erdody April 30 Grassroots Conservatives, a local tea party organization, took a straw poll Tuesday night for the upcoming Republican primary races, including 9th Congressional District and Monroe County Council districts 2 and 4. There were about 70 people at the meeting, and the winners were Kathy Lowe Heil for the 9th District, Paul E. White, Sr. for county council district 2 and Greg Knott for county council district 4. The total number of votes each candidate received were not included in the results. Heil is running against two-time incumbent Todd Young and newcomer Mark Jones. White has three opponents —Brian Ellison, Jennifer Mickel and Marilyn Brinley — but there is no incumbent. Knott is running against Barry Jayne for district 4. The three winners also spoke at a Grassroots Conservative meeting in March. Heil participated in a debate that night with Jones (Young did not attend), and Knott and White gave short speeches along with other candidates in attendance. blogs.hoosiertimes/govtracker/?p=1453
