Consider society. Consider the common good. One of governments main jobs is not only to protect individual freedom but also to protect society from lunatics, sociopaths and criminals. Humans created the idea of government in large part to protect the common good. And when the behavior of individuals or businesses is damaging or oppressive to society or harmful to the common good, then its governments job to rein in, regulate, prohibit or punish the damaging behavior. We continue to elect corrupt people who can be paid look the other way instead of enforcing. We continue to elect people who say its not their job not to do the governments job. And thats our failing, not the governments.
