Considering shes already a great writer, why wouldnt we just let Class of 2005 alum Sandra Gonzalez close out our Alumni Spotlights for the Reunion? Read about all the cool things Sandra has been up to since graduating from Memorial. Oh, and make sure to follow her on Twitter using the handle @theSandraG. #memorialize05 After spending 90 percent of my high school years in room 39 -- newspaper/yearbook HQ -- it was only natural that Id find my livelihood in journalism. But even I couldnt have imagined the weird, wonderful journey that would take place after graduating from Memorial. I spent my college years working at University of Texas-Pan American student newspaper, eventually holding the editor-in-chief position, and during the summers, Id do internships that took me from Austin to Washington D.C. In my final year of college, I was hired full time at The Monitor, where I worked in features and entertainment until Oct. 09, when the real fun began. Thats when I got an internship at Entertainment Weekly magazine in New York City. So, I packed up my belongings, quit my job, and moved across the country for a 6-month internship that I wasnt sure would turn into much more. At the time, I was willing to take the risk. What followed seems like a blur, really. After 6 months of interning and some of the hardest, longest work days of my life, I was hired full time and spent four wonderful years with the publication -- three years in New York and one in Los Angeles, where I currently call home. As a television reporter, I got to talk one-on-one with some of the most incredible and influential names in entertainment (celebrities and not), cover award shows, and visit the sets of the biggest shows on TV. Various highlights include: Writing my first cover story about the TV show Scandal, moderating the first and only How I Met Your Mother Comic-Con panel, hosting a weekly program on Sirius XMs EW Radio, moderating a Sleepy Hollow panel for the legendary Paley Center during Paleyfest, attending my first Oscars, and FINALLY meeting the Backstreet Boys. (Yes, it HAPPENED, and no, I did not cry while meeting Nick Carter.) Ive also appeared on Good Morning America, Nightline, Extra and few other entertainment programs as an entertainment expert In June, I left EW for a fantastic opportunity at Mashable, where Im their Senior Television Reporter and helping build their entertainment branch from the ground up. Its been a blast so far -- but ask me again after award season. Haha!
