Consistency matters, a lot, to me. In that spirit, I do not - TopicsExpress

Consistency matters, a lot, to me. In that spirit, I do not care what Mel Gibson (or his disgraceful father) says, as private remarks, about Jews. Or what they have said or intimated about the Pope, as Messrs. Gibson are so-called Traditionalist Catholics, which is a euphemism for heretics. Nor do I care about President Harry Trumans diary entries about kikes and niggers. The same rule applies to Donald Sterling. His private remarks, vile though they may be, were illegally recorded and distributed (presumably for financial gain or publicity, not moral outrage) by his biracial mistress. Gibsons (pater and fils) remarks did not surprise me then; Sterlings comments do not shock me now. Actions matter. By that standard, Sterling *is* harmful because he has an admitted record (in court documents) of having discriminated against blacks and Hispanics, who sought to rent apartments in buildings he owned. Thats racism. A lifetime ban by the NBA, or the forced sale (at an exorbitantly high profit) of the Clippers, is many things. The least of which is punishment.
