Consumption does not allow for the production process--without the - TopicsExpress

Consumption does not allow for the production process--without the production process, we have nothing to consume. This is why the economy is not just about consumption and has to have investment and savings. You are not hurting the economy if you choose to save. Consumption for consumption sake does not improve our standard of living. This is why government consumption is maligned by people who understand economics. Our standard of living increases when we have more discretion for voluntary exchange and wealth accumulation. Government as a monopoly on force robs us of those choices. It is often said that we are the government. Maybe so. I have come to believe that the State, however, is not our conscience; but, rather, it is our complacency often to the point of greed; it is our ignorance often to the point of sloth; it is our quest for equality often to the point of envy; it is our cravings often to the point of gluttony; it is our self worth that comes from pride rather than dignity; it is our wanting to make things right to the point of lust for power; and it is our frustration to the point of anger. Now, does the government as a monopoly of force sound good to you? Tricia.
