***Contact a New Hope rescue to save DELILAH!*** A volunteer writes: Beautiful Delilah is with us as her master passed away. She lays almost flat on her blanket, insecure and lost. The name Delilah reminds us of love and betrayal but our Delilah seems more like a loyal companion. She has been well cared for, well fed and wears a gorgeous fox red coat with no callus in sight. Her eyes are bright, still clear and do not avoid mine. She has the cutest little ears bent over her face. She even had a smile toward the end of our first encounter. Delilah enters warily the yard. Who are all those people and all those dogs, big and small? We sit on a bench, in the alley. Delilah settles close to me and leans more and more against my legs. She ends up partially under my knees as more staff and pooches stroll by. I petted her. Hand shy at first, then more relaxed. Treats have no appeal to her. I felt comfortable to let her loose in a pen. She explored a little, did her business, came when I called her and laid down at my feet. She seemed content and I caressed her. Delilah would not be friendly to people, children and other animals in general according to the person who knew her, took care of he after the death of her master, and relinquished her for a host of reasons. She would be a loving girl otherwise. It is difficult to assess a dog who is shelter-shocked after loosing her home and her loved ones. All what I can say at this point is that Delilah dealt with me and accepted me, a perfect stranger as a suitable caretaker. I think that with a little work, we could make a nice pair. Could she be the type of dog who focuses and gives it all to one master and does not particularly care for the rest...I do like Delilah and hope that there is someone out there who will welcome her in his or her heart. Delilah is at the Manhattan Care Center.
