Contest preps for the greater majority of competitors range - TopicsExpress

Contest preps for the greater majority of competitors range anywhere from 4 - 6 months, that is an extremely long amount of time to but all of the more important aspects of life on hold. This sport for a very select is going to yield financial gain so make sure you keep it in the proper perspective. This can be done without putting your family, career and other passions on hold of half of the year, year after year and 5 years down the road you look back and see how much time you have wasted that did not need to be wasted. When its time to train, do so with the best of your energy and efforts, when its time to eat stick to what is needed within the realm of the current goal and outside of that shut it off. You do not need to eat, sleep, and breath bodybuilding in order to be successful at it and often times this approach will leave you so burnt out and you will fall short of your true potential. I remember a conversation I had with Neil Hill this year at the Arnold he told me some of his most successful years in bodybuilding were the years that he had the least amount of time to devote to it. A full time job left him busy with just enough time to work, take care of his family, eat his meals and train. He said this sport does not need someone to dwell on it 24 hours a day to be their best and those that take that approach often fade out because they place far too much time and effort into mindless thinking about the what ifs rather than putting in the needed time and then devoting the rest of their lives to more important matters. I love this sport, it creates the opportunity to push and strive for a better version of yourself daily but a better person of yourself is complete and not lacking or drawing back in all other areas of your life. As a coach some of you might be asking why I am writing such a post as it might even sound like I am encouraging others not to compete, which is not the case. I am saying that competing needs to be apart of ones life not their entire life simply because it is not needed to be successful.
