Context matters. This last week I saw a socialist (who makes over 60k a year) verbally attack someone who lives in poverty and runs a small taco cart in a poor neighbourhood for being petite bourgeois . Talk about privilege and ignorance....a wealthier white person with a fancy car talking shit to a poorer hispanic-native for not having a boss. Thats a real class hero there. As a Syndicalist, it IS my goal to reach a post-scarcity socialized economy. I think the Marxist-Leninist approach of nationalizing all industry and keeping everyone a wage worker is outdated and had flaws even back when it was relevant. In the United States we do still have exports, but we have largely outsourced our means of production to poorer countries who use sweatshops and slave labor. We do not have physical access to the factories.....so how does anyone imagine that we are going to take them over? If the workers reclaimed their own factories, they would probably keep it for themselves rather than slave away to continue giving us cheap goods....as they should. We are not entitled to their servitude. If we are going to reach a post-scarcity economy.....if we are going to have a successful mass movement at all, then we are going to require a means of production that we control. Being a wage slave sucks. It requires us to be obedient to people who are above us and are not our peers. It is better to work independently, with nobody above or below us. As we gather the means to produce for our own needs, to take care of our own people, we should already have strategies in place to transition ever towards a more egalitarian society and economy. Always forwards, never backwards. Being a wage slave in a service economy can be a necessary evil, as it generally costs money to live. I do not however see it as a badge of honer to be working below a boss, as opposed to being an independent producer or worker. You are not better than the person in the tin shack making tacos just because you serve a boss and he doesnt.
